Tandem Packet-Radio Queueing Networks

چکیده

Most research in the area of packet-radio networks has been confined to one-hop hearing topologies. This paper investigates tandem networks which are multihop networks. We assume that the nodes of the tandem have infinite buffers and they share a common radio channel for transmission of data packets. We also assume that each node transmits whenever it has a packet ready for transmission. We treat two tandem networks here. The first is a tandem having arbitrary number of nodes and packets arrive to the network only at the "top" node. The second is a four-node tandem network where packets arrive to all the nodes. The arrival processes to the nodes here might, in general, be dependent. For these networks we derive the joint generating functions of the contents of the queues at the nodes in steady-state. From the generating functions, any moment of the queue lengths can, in principle, be derived as well as average time delays in the network. We also give an example for independent Bernoulli arrival processes. *This research was carried out at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Laboratory for Information and Decesion Systems with partial support provided by the National Science Foundation undger grant'NSF-ECS-8310698. **Moshe Sidi is with the Department of Electrical Engineering, TechnionIsrael Institute of Technology, Haifa 32000, Israel. Packet Models Revisited: Tandem and Priority Systems

We examine two extensions of traditional single-node packet-scale queueing models: tandem networks and (strict) priority systems. Two generic input processes are considered: periodic and Poisson arrivals. For the two-node tandem, an exact expression is derived for the joint distribution of the total queue length, and the queue length of the first queue, implicitly determining the distribution o...

A simple analysis of average queueing delay in tree networks

We develop an approach to the analysis of average queueing delay in a tree network of discrete-time queues with constant senice time. The analysis of such systems is pertinent to packet-switehed data networks with fixed-length packets. Our solution is based on considering an equivalent network, in which at each node packets in transit are given priority over exogenous arrivals. The solution to ...

About the cumulative idle time in multiphase queues

The paper is designated to the analysis of queueing systems, arising in the network theory and communications theory (called multiphase queueing systems, tandem queues or series of queueing systems). Also we note that multiphase queueing systems can be useful for modelling practical multi-stage service systems in a variety of disciplines, especially on manufacturing (assembly lines), computer n...

June 1984 LIDS - P - 1387 DISCRETE - TIME PRIORITY QUEUES WITH PARTIAL INTERFERENCE

A class of discrete time priority queueing systems with partial interference is considered. Packet-radio communication networks that use a certain mode of operation fall into this class. In these systems N nodes share a common channel to transmit their packets. One node uses random access scheme while the other nodes use the channel according to prescribed priorities. Packet arrivals are modele...

Priority queueing models for cognitive radio networks with traffic differentiation

In this paper, we present a new queueing model providing the accurate average system time for packets transmitted over a cognitive radio (CR) link for multiple traffic classes with the preemptive and non-preemptive priority service disciplines. The analysis considers general packet service time, general distributions for the channel availability periods and service interruption periods, and a s...
